How FlatStack works

From booking to a cleared-out space, in a few simple steps.

No need to break anything down or drag loads to the curb. Just book a time, make the boxes accessible, and we handle the rest— including on-site breakdown.

1

Book your pickup

Choose a FlatStack plan, pick a time window, and tell us where your boxes will be (garage, porch, entryway, etc.). If you book before 5pm in an available slot, we typically service you as soon as the next day.

2

We break down every box

You don't need to flatten anything. Just leave your cardboard reasonably staged and accessible. Your driver will break down boxes on-site and create a clean, compact flat stack for haul-away.

3

Smart overflow & haul-away

A standard pickup covers about the volume of a 96-gallon municipal recycling cart. If there's clearly more, drivers use practical judgment to apply Overflow bundles when needed— nobody is counting individual boxes. If you're home, they'll usually check in; if not, they'll still complete the work and note any overflow on your receipt, then haul everything away.

What we take

Cardboard-first, with practical add-ons for common household clutter.

FlatStack is built around cardboard. We target the growing pile of online-order boxes taking over your garage, entryway, or spare room—and we handle the breakdown for you.

Core service: cardboard breakdown & haul-away

  • Full cardboard boxes of most sizes—you don't need to flatten them; we break everything down on-site.
  • Already-flattened cardboard that's reasonably clean and dry.
  • Standard load: roughly the volume of a 96-gallon municipal recycling cart (the large rolling bin many homes use). Many pickups fall at or below this level.

When there's clearly more than a standard load, drivers may apply Overflow bundles based on practical judgment. Nobody is counting every box—they're looking at overall volume. If you're around, they'll typically explain the call; if not, they'll complete the job and note any overflow on your receipt.

Optional add-ons

These examples show typical add-on categories and price points. Actual options are always listed clearly during checkout and stay tied to your booking, so drivers know exactly what to expect.

Examples of add-ons

  • Small E-waste box

Routers, printers, keyboards, small appliances (<30 lb), holiday lights, extension cords, and cables. Please remove or bag any loose batteries separately.

  • Household batteries (per quart bag)

AA/AAA and similar household batteries. Alkaline and lithium/rechargeable are kept separate for safe handling. Priced per roughly quart-sized container or bag.

  • EPS foam blocks/coolers (clean, white)

Clean, white foam blocks and coolers only (no food clamshells). Each EPS add-on covers a reasonable bundle—think roughly up to a handful of solid pieces or clamshell blocks—with final judgment left to the driver on-site based on volume.

  • TV pickup & disposal

Flat panels only. We handle transport and the recycling center fees on your behalf. Oversize or projection sets may be quoted separately. For unusually large, heavy, or awkward TVs, we may request a quick photo in advance so we can plan safe handling and any stairs/in-home surcharges.

  • Overflow cardboard bundle

Used when your volume clearly exceeds the included allotment. Flatten and bundle extra stacks for fast pickup. Drivers apply overflow based on the overall size of the stack, not by counting individual boxes.

FAQ

The things people usually ask us.

Here's how FlatStack works in plain language—no fine print required. If you still have questions, reach out and we'll help you sort it out.

Do I need to break down my boxes first?

Nope. That's the whole point of FlatStack. Just make sure your boxes are accessible in the spot we agreed on (driveway, garage, porch, etc.). Your driver will break everything down on-site and stack it for haul-away.

How much fits in a standard pickup?

Think about the volume of a 96-gallon municipal recycling cart — the big rolling bin many towns use. A typical load is around that size. Some jobs are lighter, some are heavier, but that's the rough anchor point we design around.

What if I put out more boxes than I planned?

It happens all the time. If the pile is clearly more than a normal load, your driver will treat the extra as overflow and price it as additional volume. They're not counting every box—they're looking at the whole stack and making a reasonable call based on what's there.

If you're home, they can walk you through it on the spot. If you're not home, they'll still clear everything out and leave a short note on your receipt so you know why overflow was added.

Do I need to be home for my pickup?

Not unless you want to be. As long as your boxes (and any add-on items) are in the agreed location and accessible, we can handle the whole visit without you there. We'll break everything down, haul it away, and send you a digital receipt with any notes from the driver.

Can you take TVs or other electronics?

Yes. We offer TV pickup with responsible disposal, plus a small e-waste option for things like routers, small printers, keyboards, cables, and similar gear. Each TV add-on is a simple fee that covers both the pickup and the disposal side so there are no surprises.

For unusually large or heavy TVs, or anything that needs to go up or down stairs, we may ask for a quick photo ahead of time so we can plan safe handling and apply any stairs / in-home handling fees properly.

What if my boxes are in an apartment or upstairs?

If your cardboard is inside an apartment building or in an upstairs unit, there's a small stairs / in-building access fee. You'll see a simple toggle for this during checkout when you book a cardboard pickup.

If you're not sure whether it applies, you can leave it off. Drivers can add the stairs fee on-site when it's clearly required by the location of the materials, and they'll note it on your receipt.

Which areas do you serve?

Service is based on ZIP codes and may expand over time. Use the checker in the Service Area section to see if we're currently covering your address.

If we're not in your ZIP yet, you'll be able to leave your ZIP and email so we can record your interest and let you know if coverage opens up. For special situations or edge-case addresses, you can always email support@flatstackpickup.com.
